History of Texas Holdem Poker
The History of Texas Holdem Poker is one of little detail. Poker in the form that is recognizable to us today, has its roots in the American Civil War. The History of Texas Holdem Poker begins some 50 years later in Texas (No Surprise Laugh!). Texas cattle men wanted to play poker after a hard day of work, but there was too many people that wanted to play. So they decide to take the idea of a community card game to an extreme, give each player only two cards! This allowed more people to play at one time. While this is a colorful time in the History of Texas Holdem Poker, not much progress will happen in establishing Texas Holdem Poker as a top game for some 60 more years. Texas Holdem Poker always took a back seat to the "regular" draw poker and stud poker type card games. Then there was a critical turn in the History of Texas Holdem Poker when official tournament play started with the World Series of Poker in 1970. Texas Holdem Poker was to be a great game for tournament play, and became the final table game at World Series of Poker at Binion's Horseshoe Casino. Now Texas Holdem Poker was an "official poker game" and not just a regional "cowboy" game. But there was one last ace to be shown in the History of Texas Holdem Poker and it was electronics, The tiny little lipstick cameras which can show a player's hole cards and the explosion of the Internet cause people that normally would have never been exposed to Texas Holdem Poker all of a sudden watching it on TV and playing it online. Because of the tremendous interest in Texas Holdem Poker the final result of the History of Texas Holdem Poker is that poker is now a mainstream activity, talked openly on TV, newspaper, ect.
