Texas Holdem Poker Terms
Call -The act of putting the minimum amount of chips in the pot to continue playingCall Cold or Cold Call -To have to call on both a bet and a raise in a single action
Calling Station or Pay Station - A passive player that calls a lot, but rarely raises or folds. Ends up often calling better hands
Capped - When the maximum number of raises in a betting round have been reached
Cardroom - The room or space in a casino that poker is placed
Cards Speak -Short for "the cards speak for themselves" value is determined by the hand, not by what the player declares
Case Card - The last available card of a particular value or suit
Cash Out - The act of exchanging ones chips for money when leaving a game
Center Pot - Or "Main Pot" The first pot created which does not include any side pots from players going all in
Change Gears - When a player changes his or hers style of play during a game
Chase - To continue to play with a hand that is consider to be of less value then at least one opponent
Check - To bet zero when its legal in a particular game to do so
Check Raise - To check initially then to raise later in the betting round
Chip - A plastic disk is used in poker to represent money
C-Note -One Hundred dollar bill
Coffeehousing - Talking between players in a way to manipulate another player. Not allowed
Collection - An upfront fee to get a seat at desirable game or tournament
Community Cards - Cards dealt face up on to the center of the table which all payer can use to form their best hand
Complete Hand - A hand in which all 5 cards contribute to the fulfillment of the hand, or contains 4 of a kind
Concealed Pair - A pair that a player has that are both dealt face down. In texasholdempoker it would be having a hole cards be a pair
Connector - Any two cards that are one apart in rank. An example in texas-holdem-poker would be to start with hole cards of 4 and 5
Court Card - A card that is a King, Queen, or Jack
Cowboy -A King card, or Cowboys to describe a pair of Kings
Crack - Used to describe a potentially great hand getting beat
Cripple - To have the cards in your possession that other players would want to combine with the cards on the board. You have "Crippled the Deck"
Crying Call - To complain while calling. A possible strategy to keep others in the hand
Cut The Deck - To randomly separate the deck into two parts and place the bottom on the top so to insure the deck has no order
Dark Bet also Blind Bet - A bet that is made without knowing the value of your cards
Dead Card - A card that is not legally payable
Dead Hand - A hand that is fouled and is not legally playable
Dead Man's Hand - A hand of two pairs, Aces and Eight's. The hand Wild Bill Hickok was holding when he was shot to death
Dealer Button or Button -A white disk that rotates around the table to signify which player is in the dealer position
Deuce - A 2 card. Deuces if its a pair of 2 cards
Discard - Describes cards drawn out of ones hand, or Discards: the pile of used cards
Dog - Short for underdog
Dominated Hand - A hand that almost always loses to other hands that people tend to want to play
Double Pop - When the second player re-raises a raise
Down To The Green - When a player has gone all in, since there no more chips covering the green table
Draw - The act of replacing cards in a hand
Draw Dead - Drawing cards to complete a hand that will still lose even if its completed
Draw Out - To get a card that changes your hand from a loser to a winner
Drop - Another word for fold
